7. Looking back at your preliminary task what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to full product?

I worked in somewhat of a different group to that I worked in for the preliminary task. As it turned out, this was a fairly bad idea, as the person I ended up working with wasn't much help, meaning I had to work on my own, meaning the work suffered as a result. However, in many ways, we did integrate some of the transitions into the story, such as the close up to other close ups in order to make the transitions somewhat less jarring. We also used jump cuts when it was needed to use these transitions, which also help make them seem less jarring and somewhat more professional. However, we decided to be somewhat more ambitious using different locations, and many more actors in order to show a variety of characters not seen in the original, for better or for worse. The slow motion scene is a great case, as this was not something featured within the preliminary task, however the change in camera meant we could use this. We also decided to be more clever with the editing, implementing filters, giving a more distinct look to the film. This is in contrast to the preliminary task, which was in comparison somewhat boring looking. It also featured more clumsy editing in comparison to the tight editing we decided to implement in the actual product, as the genre of the Preliminary was much more dramatic in comparison to the horror comedy with action elements of the final product.

In many ways, the film opening shows some sort of relationship to the preliminary task, as many shots mirror each shot, seeing how we also wanted to show the emotions in our final product, even if the genre had changed. However, instead of using the boring slow editing full of emotions we could have simply used, we decided to let the emotions take somewhat of a back seat, with only fear and confusion being shown instead of happiness and sadness like in the preliminary task. There is a clear progression between the two films, with the actual film opening having a larger range of locations compared to the preliminary task, as the film opening uses both the industrial estate next to tesco and Emiliy's house, while the preliminary task was filmed all in one room, K1A, showing the progression in the amount of places and confidence which we could use more than just one place. As mentioned, the editing changed from being somewhat awkward to being much more fast paced, as I had somewhat more freedom this time for it, and also it had action element instead of just being a slow drama. The film in general has improved from the preliminary task, featuring less awkward dialouge, tighter editing, an inclusion of music where there wasn't any before. Also the camerawork was more impressive, and indeed in every way it was an improvement

Audience profile + Why?

We decided on going for a somewhat even split between the genders, although a slight edge on male because they tend to prefer horror films at least usually. However, the audience which we target won't be the most manly men, rather it would be those who are comfortable in liking unisex items. We chose the age because that would cover a young adult audience which fits with the audience of fellow horror comedies and also the cast. It is a lucrative age barrier to access, as those that are this age have the money and freedom to go to cinemas often, and are the age which allows them to get into every single rated film, plus they only really have to follow school days, as they at the most would have only part time jobs. Their interests and hobbies simply fit with the generic teenage ones because we wished to cover the largest base we could with ours. This would mean that they would be avid cinema goers, and would often go clubbing or to parties. They would spend time with one another, and would play games at home, possibly against one another. At the most they would drink in moderation, except at parties, and not smoke much. Of course, they would all be in somewhat later stages of education, so they would have somewhat more time and feel the need to go to the cinema to make a change in life from their day to day working on school stuff, hence they would visit a lot. This is why we also targeted the middle class above all else because they would have the money spare, however we also target the lower classes because the film, at least the location, has somewhat of a charm in which they would like, seeing as it is fairly gritty. The upper classes however wouldn't be interested, as it doesn't fit with any interests which they may have. Of course, the clothes show they are fashionable because they are somewhat smarter teenagers, fitting more into the hipster subculture, and the income fits with this too. How we targeted fashionable teenagers is by making our characters be somewhat fashionable, even the zombie, with both the stars wearing leather jacket and seemingly caring about their appearance. This is because we want the audience to relate to the characters, so there is a connection and they therefore feel empathy or the main characters, and somewhat to the zombie, as it is clear this is a recent dystopia above anything else, hence the characters are relatable to a degree.
